1. The first stop on the roadmap: identifying the problem.

“It's actually enormously helpful to be attacking the problem from as many angles as possible… I like to think about it like the blueprints for building a building and they're very specific and they're very detailed, and they're required to get the building to be built.”

2. Sometimes a big win includes partnering with your client or vendor.

Tom references the one company operating model that was created between Procter & Gamble and Walmart:

“How could we create a system that would operate as if it was one company yet meet the needs of both companies individually?...It's kind of like a jigsaw puzzle, a thousand piece jigsaw puzzle, where the picture on the cover said “One company operating model,” and then you open the box and inside there were a thousand pieces that had to go together. If we kept the picture on the outside of the box in front of us, then we could keep working on adding the pieces until we made the puzzle line up with the picture.”

3. When it comes to finding and keeping talent, most people are more attracted to a team that wins a championship than being the MVP.

“We want to win the national championship and we want our players to win the top award at every position. Well, obviously you got to start by winning as a team. And if you win as a team, the individual awards pretty much take care of themselves.”

Tom Muccio

Former President of Global Teams | Procter & Gamble

Tom spent 35 years with Procter & Gamble, assuming several prominent roles along the way. His last position at P&G was as the president of Global Teams, andefore this, he was the initial architect and team leader for the P&G Walmart relationship. At P&G, he has had a variety of sales and marketing assignments in the U.S. and internationally and has worked in every product division. Tom also served as a board member for 2 for-profit international companies--The Blanchard Company and Cardone Industries.

After retirement, he was CEO of a start-up BioBased Company from 2003-2009. The company was eventually sold to Cargill Industries. He has also done speaking and consulting for a variety of international companies in many different industries, and taught classes and been a guest lecturer in many universities in the US and abroad as well as serving on 2 university boards.
